Arts festivals join in support for the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue
Representatives of major European arts and culture festivals signed a declaration of support to the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue today in Ljubljana together with the EU Commissioner Ján Figel'. It means that the aims and messages of the year will be reflected throughout 2008 in dozens of festivals all over the EU and beyond.

Opening event of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (2008)
On 07 and 08 January 2008, a conference entitled "Intercultural Dialogue as the Fundamental Value of the EU", is organised in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in the presence of Commissioners Ján Figel' and Jánez Potočnik.

Equality and diversity link European Years 07 & 08
“To make an end is to make a beginning”, stated T.S. Eliot. As the European Year 2007 of Equal Opportunities for All comes to a close, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Vladimír Špidla, and Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, Ján Figel’, underlined their commitment to future European polities on equal opportunities, social inclusion and diversity in 2008 and beyond.

In Slovenia, the EYID campaign takes off
Anticipating the official EYID opening 7–8 January 2008 in Ljubljana, the Slovenian national strategy for the Year has been presented. The strategy is aimed particularly at the young. Indeed, the principal idea of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008 is to strengthen a dialogue within civil society, especially between young people in the European Union and beyond, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, Vasko Simoniti, pointed out on 14 December at the EYID 2008 media launch in Ljubljana.
